Drivers Licence

matt | 23 January, 2011 13:37

21c Sunday Cloudy

My overseas drivers Licence is going to expire, so I have to get a Victora Licence as soon as possible. After having prepared for a while I passed the Knowledge Test with 100% correct rate last Friday.

I should book the Hazard Perception and Road Test at the same day. It's really ironic that I couldn't book my next test on the VicRoad's Website, and it's only for Ps. Anyway, I will go to Oakleigh centre on Monday to see when is the soonest date I am able to take the test.

Working at the retail shop

matt | 13 December, 2010 00:22

Rain 13C Sunday

Today was the first day I practically worked at Puffing Billy Railway, and it was a retail shop. A long day, from 8:45am to 6:00pm, my butt only touched a bench for 15 minutes when I had a lunch break outsides. I haven't continully stood working for a long time. My waist was breaking, but when I accidently heard that Lyn told another person I did very well, that was a big prize.

I believe they have a very good opinion about me and I trust my abilities. So the attitude is important to any job.

I'll keep volunteering next weekends.

WWC application

matt | 09 December, 2010 21:31

Thursday Cloudy 22C

As Murray has reminded me, Julie was a little bit careless.

This morning, I rang Sue and made an appointment with Juie to finalise the Working With Children check application. When I came to Belgrave staion, Sue wasn't there. Julie checked my application form and introduce me to Lyn, Mananger of retail store. I was a little surprised and I thought I would be a conductor. But anyway, working in the retail store is a better way to show my customer service skills. In addtion to that, I can be more socialised here. After talking with Lyn, we settle down the first day I will serve at the retail store, then I said goodbye and went to parking area.

Fortunately, I stayed at a table in the shadow of trees around the car park, drinking the water and taking a rest. After a while, Julie called me saying I haven't sign the application form and my photo was too old for the application. My God, I was thinking I was going to lose some of my money. Anyway, I went back and saw that Sue had come back. She probably had checked the form, so luckily, I didn't need to drive 40KM back. The good news was I didn't need to pay the money for the photo as a volunteer.

After SPMP

matt | 08 December, 2010 21:52

Rain 18C Wednesday

I can't believe I've finished the AMES course.Time really flies.

We came from different countries, South Korea, Philippines,Mexico, Rassia, Iraq, Japan, Iran, India, Egypt, Indonisia, Peru, Somalia, Sri lanka and China. The funny thing is I sitted between an Iraqi and an Iranian during the classroom. In TV we saw a lot of news reporting the conflicts between these two countries. However, those affairs only exist among governments, and people acctually have no slightest idea towards the conflicts.

So, I am still wondering why this world is really fully of mysteries and unknowns. Why someone was born in a poor country struggling through their whole life and someone else just lives comfortably with good cares and better environments.

But wherever you are, you can choose, that's the first thing that is equal universally, you can choose to be happy or unhappy. No matter what kind of conditions or suffing you are experiencing, you do have choice. I remember the words from an audio book quoted by Steven, "They can hurt my body, but they can not hurt me who lives in this body". The author was suffering in the concentration camp during the World War II.

An Argentinian Lady

matt | 07 December, 2010 16:45

Lilianan called me yesterday morning when I was wating in front of the traffic signals. She was going to go to the city centre again and asked me if I would take the same train. Such a lovely lady.

I remember the first time, when we met at Huntingdale station, she held a book and a rose and asked me when the train would come. I was trying to listen to the audio book and was not aware of the abnormal situtation that morning. For some reasons, the trains were cancelled at Huntingdale station, so everybody was trying to cache a bus towards Oakleigh station. Surely, the bus stop was full of people.

It's really funny, every time when I heard of the saying about trustworth of Melbourne's public transportation, I remember the unexpected cancelled train in the peak morning.

She invited me heading to Oakleigh station by her car. On the way, she couldn't walk fast due to her age. I did my best to help her. She asked me if I believe in God. I am not a religious person, but I truely believe that God is always blessing me.

This time, she showed me the photos of her family, daughters, granddaughters and son-in-laws, a big family.

Puffing Billy Volunteer

Belgrave station clock

25c Saturday Sunny

I got an authorised parking card at Belgrave station today. That's only for employees or volunteers. There is still a Working with Children Check needed to be finalised and I'll be soon on rosters. I prefer IT related work but none of current job is available, so I chose conductor for fun. Anyway, I am good at customer services and I can practise my spoken English as well.

:) I think this is a good opportunity that I am able to put my voluntary experience on my resume for the Library systems support officer position. After all, a public position needs you to be more community-oriented.

Busy in Melbourne

matt | 02 December, 2010 21:30

Time flies. I've been in Melbourne for more than 2 months. The short government course at AMES will end next week and tomorrow I'm going to be a formal volunteer at Puffing Billy Railway.

After the class this afternoon I met Murray at the Bakery near Huntingdale station. Again, for a cup of cappuccino, Murray paid it. I don't understand why he acted like this. We usually pay the bill in turn. Anyway, he will have a night shift tomorrow. I might not see him in the daylight.

I asked Murray about the CONNEXUS's weird behaviour - the interview went well from my understanding, and Adrian said the feedback will be next week due to some good candidates they still have to interview. However, I saw on the seek website they reposted their job ad again after my interview.

Of course Murray didn't have any idea. It's really odd. Anyway, Ian might ask me join his team next week, and there could be another two good news for me next week. I just need wait and see.

New stage

matt | 31 October, 2010 13:02

11C Rain

It just happened without any expectation. Last Friday after long time working on CV, my eyes were really really tired with pain, so I changed to a talking book named His Dark Materia III. 3 hours later, I finished the finally part and it was suddenly the radio news became very clear to me, even the mumbled words of interviewees I could easily catch.

And then, I went to Emerald Station with Murray yesterday, the whole day I talked with Murray I was able to be aware of my fluency. When I speak no hesitation and mumble any more.

I'm so delighted that this must be a milestone of my English learning. Though, unknown and difficult words are inevitable, no confusion and intimidation any more.

the Victoria Skilled Migrant Seminar

matt | 28 October, 2010 17:31

Yesterday, I went to a Skilled Migrant Seminar in the city. It must be a Victoria government funded session. As I told Murray, this seminar was not much help for new migrants, I'm afraid. Because, what we need most is the local working experience and getting through the Language barrier.

However, I could meet new friends here and know other migrants who also experience my difficulties. That makes me feel better. Especially when I heard of other strange accents I was relieved. Wow, my problem is just a minor little thing. So that's the biggest reward from this seminar. Also, I met a Russian civil engineer who told me a course ran by AMES. After I called AMES a moment ago, I think it might be good for me to take this three weeks course. At least, broadening my networking, meeting new friends and practising spoken English.

job seeking

matt | 27 October, 2010 12:53

I've started to send applicaitons for jobs for several days. From my searching results, there are plenty of the opportunities, however, most of the positions need excellent communication skills. I have to low down my needs and restart my career from beginning. Yes as a newbie like 16 years ago to find a job is not easy. Try! Never Give Up.

Puffing Billy

matt | 20 October, 2010 01:23

Puffing BillyMurray took me to Puffing Billy Station last Saturday. What a interesting short trip, though it was not fun for Murray as he said ^_^

He introduced me to Sue at Emerald Station where I met several people. Many of them are volunteers. I think that's one of the differences between devoloping countries and devoloped countries. People are quick satisfied with what they are doing and they enjoy it. Of course, there are always exception, either from spiritual point of view or human mental world.

I'd better fill up the form and send to Sue before she forgets who I am completely.

Murray drove me from Emerald Station to Gembrook Station and Lakeside Station and finally Menzies Creek Station, although there was still a Belgrave Station there, I was very happy to see the cockatoo, rosella and crimson.
